A few words about Paul Utzschneider
Paul Utzschneider (1771-1844), stoneware manufacturer, bought shares in the Sarreguemines earthenware factory from the Jacobi brothers in 1799 and 1800. Very quickly, he took English manufacturers as a model as well as their production and, in particular, that of Wedgwood whose qualities he admires. He studied his techniques during a trip to England and imitates the very fine stoneware of the famous English ceramist. From 1820 appeared the first decorations printed from copper plates for which he obtained numerous prizes and the Legion of Honor. In 1838, the pottery joined forces with the Villeroy and Boch families and called itself “Utzschneider & Cie”.
