After the Bismark war (1870) and the annexation of Alsace and Lorraine, Sarreguemines was on German territory and earthenware was taxed at 15%. In 1876, Paul de Geiger, who was then the head of the faience factory, decided to build a factory in France to offset the rising price of his products in France. The construction of this new production unit in Digoin (Saône et Loire) began in 1877.
